Data Stewards - urgently needed! BMBF funds project of USB Cologne and ZB MED

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is funding the project DataStew - Data stewardship in German academic research institutions – Analysis of the status quo and recommendations on training requirements and job profiles for a period of nine months from 1 February 2022. Project partners are the University and City Library of Cologne (USB) and ZB MED - Information Centre for Life Sciences.

The project has two main objectives: firstly, to determine the status quo and identify the needs of the various stakeholder groups and, secondly, to derive recommendations for both policy and practice. The initial task is to carry out an analysis of the status quo by examining the pertinent literature and job advertisements. Qualitative interviews are also planned. The findings of this analysis will lay the foundations for focus group discussions with a variety of stakeholders. The results of the analyses, interviews and discussions will then be translated into specific recommendations for action.
